Osteology, was composed to showcase David Stansbury’s versatility on the trombone, and in each movement I try to make it sound like a completely different instrument: Brutal and forceful in Plate Tectonics, nearly out of control, as if the trombone is playing the trombonist; dirty and gritty in Primordial Ooze, a study in ‘wrong’ sounds; and lyrical and haunting in Ancient Song.
